Inclement Weather Procedures
Delayed Opening & School Closing Information
It is the practice of the Secaucus School District to keep schools open on a regular
basis despite inclement weather. However, severe storms, which cause heavy snow
accumulations, will force the closing of schools. Sometimes we are faced with a
light snow that creates hazardous road conditions during the early morning
hours. In instances such as this, the district will delay the opening of school
by two hours and bus routes will be adjusted accordingly. A delayed opening
allows the safe operation of our school system since most commuter traffic has
dissipated and the roads have been cleared by the Department of Public Works.
Hopefully, this will minimize the number of days school will be closed during
the winter season.
When weather conditions prevent us from either opening schools at the regular
time or from opening at all, the following procedures will be put into effect:
1. Announcement of the closing or two hour delayed
opening will be made over stations 1010 WINS (AM RADIO), NEWS 12NJ (Channel 62),
WNBC-TV (Channel 4), WABC-TV (Channel 7), Fox 5 WNYW (Channel 5), and Secaucus
School District - Channel 34 (Comcast).
2. Residents
may also call the schools for a pre-recorded message on the following:
Clarendon School 974-2010 -
974-2011
Huber St. School 974-2053 -
974-2054
Middle School 974-2022 -
974-2023
Secaucus High School 974-2031 -
974-2032
3. Each
school will use the Blackboard Connect service, our school-to parent
communication system, to notify parents/guardians of school closings and delayed
openings.
4. On a delayed opening day, bused
students will report to their assigned stop two hours later than usual.
5. On a delayed opening day all schools will serve lunch as
scheduled.
6. *** PLEASE DO
NOT CALL LOCAL POLICE ***
Early Closings
Once school is in session, when it becomes necessary to close before the regular
dismissal time, parents/guardians will be notified via the Blackboard Connect service.
Parents/guardians are requested to provide supervision for their children if
they will
not be home when students arrive. Working parents particularly are requested to
provide at the beginning of the school year for supervision of their children
should an
early closing become necessary.
