Philosphy of Education
The purpose of education in the schools of this
district is to facilitate the development of the potential
of each child to the fullest. The school staff seeks to
recognize individual differences and to engender
achievement and progress, not only in basic skills, but in
the ability to think independently and critically. The
school staff shall be concerned with helping young
people understand what the American way of life
means; to believe in it, and to act democratically in the
relationships with others; to develop in themselves,
attitudes of respect and helpfulness toward others; to
want, and to be able to perform well, some portion of
the work of the world, and to acquire knowledge and
skills necessary to do this with satisfaction to themselves
and society; to understand and use effective methods
in framing the questions and tackling the problems that
they may encounter in their lives to the need that they
may function politically, economically, and socially in a
democratic society.
- To acquire the basic skills needed for entering the
world of work, continuing one’s education and
functioning successfully in society.
- To acquire an understanding and appreciation of
the creative arts and sciences, and an ability to
express oneself in one or more of these areas.
- To acquire an understanding and appreciation of
our democratic form of government and the
obligations of citizenship.
- To acquire an understanding of ethical principles
and values and the ability to apply them in one’s daily
life and relationships with others.
- To develop an understanding of one’s own worth,
potentialities and limitations and an acceptance of
the values, abilities and needs of others.
- To acquire the knowledge, attitudes and habits that
ensure the safety and physical well being of oneself
and others.
- To acquire those information gathering and decision
making skills needed for a lifetime of continuous
learning and adaptation to change.
- To acquire an awareness of one’s place in the
environment and one’s responsibilities to that
environment.
- To acquire those communication skills and
understandings needed for a wide variety of
interpersonal relationships among people with
social and cultural characteristics both similar and
different from one’s own.
- To acquire the capacity for functioning successfully
and responsibly in family life.
- To acquire a background of basic information
regarding the principles of the physical and
biological sciences.
- To acquire an understanding of the natural and
social forces which have affected human
achievement and the relationship of past events to
current physical and social problems.
- To acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding
that permit one to function as a satisfied and
responsible producer and consumer.
- To acquire the skills and initiative needed to use
leisure time in a worthy and satisfying manner.
- To provide programs and resources equally to male
and female students.
- To establish and maintain a system of effective
communications among students, parents, staff, and
Board of Education.
