You know Spring is in the air when Huber Street School students hustle on their way to school, with their Science Fair experiments and tri fold boards. Principal, Mr. Fred Ponti greeted the anxious students at the main entrance, as they couldn’t wait to enter and set their projects up in the gymnasium. The weather was a balmy 60 degrees compared to the weekly snow and the realization hit that this was the “BIG DAY”. The students in the intermediate grades 4-6 worked very hard with their Science teacher Dr. Bob and put the Scientific method to work. The following students were recipients of the Gold Honorable mention: Grade 4- Max Celebrano, Dylan Vasquez, Bryan Paick , Brian O’Connell, Heidi Koukourdelis, Grade 5- Neel Patel, Thomas Hindle, Adam Hezzini, Kayla Nicolich, Connor Dunning, Sean Heaney, Nader Alkhabbaz, David Perez, Grade 6- Caroline Cerny, Pranav Jaideep,Krystal Segarra,,Raechelle Manalo, and Breanna Celebrano.
The winners of the Silver Honorable mention are Grade 4-Margaret O’Leary, Mary Allen Agbing, Aaron Russo, Gillian Mosher, Scout Hayes, Amber Neville, Hadiqa Shahid, Grade 5- Avnish Patel, Mariam Said, Kaitlyn O’Cononell, Destiny Disla, Johnna Mason, Colin Mazurkiewicz, RebeccaHiggins, Shivam Trimedi, and Giovanni Lewis. Grade 6- Megan Vasquez, Iqra Ahmed, Alyson Toman, Brielle Mattiello, Vinit Parikh, Victoria Snyder and Colleen Burns. A special word of thanks to Mrs. Cindy Randina ,Superintendent of Schools ,whose vision is to bring out the best in all of our students, as they are challenged to work to their potential and above, Mr. Gus Scerbo, former Superintendent of Schools, Mayor Mike Gonnelli, Councilman John Bueckner, Mrs.Peggy Firtion ,former principal of Huber Street School, all the former and present school teachers from our wonderful school system, and the many other distinguished judges from town who assisted in judging and make this Science Fair so memorable, exciting, fun and educational for everyone in attendance. Everyone walked away learning something new. It was another positive and motivating day in Huber Street School, whose philosophy is “ It’s all about the children.”
HUBER ST. SCHOOL S.G.O. FUNDRAISER Over the next few weeks, students at Huber St. School will have the opportunity to learn first-hand, the powerful feeling that comes from helping others. During the month of March, the S.G.O. will be hold their annual "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Throughout the month, students are asked to bring in monetary donations. Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, bills and checks (made payable to LLS, Inc.) will be gratefully accepted.
