Mrs. K. Waters - Newspaper Advisor

The "Hubear News" Newspaper publishes several editions during the course of the school year. Students in Grades 5 and 6 volunteer their articles to be included in the newspaper. The final copy is then printed and sent to the student body.
Contents of the paper vary. Students are free to submit their original poetry, short stories, or even comic strips. Many of the reporters have been delegated to cover feature articles, which have included interviewing new students and teachers to Huber St. School, restaurant review, articles covering recent school event, e.g. concerts, etc.

Mr. Ponti, after 37 years in the field of education, has announced his retirement. He started his teaching career teaching Social Studies in the high school. He then moved on to become the Middle School principal and eventually became our principal here at Huber Street School. His years of dedicated service will always be appreciated and remembered. We all wish him a healthy and happy retirement! We will miss you!
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time." ~J. Lubbock

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2011. GOOD LUCK IN SECAUCUS MIDDLE SCHOOL!
In the Sky
By Kadyonne Benjamin
In the sky,
So blue and vast,
Drifting away to different lands.
In the sky,
Looking over the world,
As if you were King or Queen.
In the sky,
So serene,
Drifting away as if in a dream.
I love to float so high,
So high,
In the sky.
The Importance of Memorial Day
By Akshay Patel

Memorial Day is a really special holiday for the United States of America. It is celebrated on the last Monday of May, which is May 30th this year. This holiday is about remembering all those servicemen and women who died in the war. We are so very thankful to these people, because without them we wouldn’t have the freedom that we enjoy today. These brave men and women risked their lives so that we could be free.
The town of Secaucus is holding a special parade this year in honor of these men and women. Some people even place flowers and American flags on the graves of loved ones to remember them. We can never forget the sacrifice these brave men and woman made for us and our country!
Dance Club – We’ve Got the Beat !
By Destiny Disla & Kate O’Connell

On May 18th the Huber Street School Dance Club performed in the gym. Many people attended to watch the dancers. The next day the Dance Club performed for the school. On both days the audience was on their feet.
The Dance Club performed their dances to "Waka Waka" by Shakira, "You Can’t Stop the Beat" from the play "Hairspray", "Cupid Shuffle , and "More" by Usher. They worked very hard and had a great time performing.
Ms. Cardenas, Ms. Junior, and Mrs. Hernandez organized the whole event splendidly. The Dance Club thanks them for all their hard work. The three teachers chose the songs, created the choreography, and organized the show! We can’t wait to see what dances they show us next year!
Exciting Trips on Little Gas
By Hava Mamudi & Alyssa Rivera

Have you seen the prices of gas lately? They are shooting through the roof, and this summer the price of gas is supposed to increase even more. People are starting to think, "Maybe we should stay in town this summer?! " Well, we are here to tell you about some fun and family friendly places where you won’t have to spend a fortune on gas.
One place is nearby in New York State, and when you hear that, you’ll probably think, "I’ve already been to New York billions of times!" Well you probably have never been to Lake George, and it’s only about 3-4 hours away, depending on traffic. You’ll have a blast and save money on gas. It’s a family friendly area full of great sites and activities.
We recommend staying at Capri Village, since it’s actually the best one there. Some great activities for you to do would include boating on the lake, visiting the water park, amusement park, or the wax museum. You can also visit the farmer’s market, visit a farm, go to the rodeo, or how about horseback riding through the mountains?
The fun never ends. You can go to a comedy club, or visit the historic site called "The Fort William Henry Museum". A favorite place to visit would be the nearby aquarium. If you want you could fish, go to the beach, or maybe even visit the coolest arcades. Afterward, you could eat and relax at one of the many restaurants there. You could even go for a stroll in town and go shopping at an antique shop. Remember to stop at Ben & Jerry’s for some delicious ice cream. And when sunset comes it’s a beautiful view near the lake and mountains. Lake George is wonderful place to visit and you’ll save a lot of money on gas!
Another fantastic vacation spot we recommend is The Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos, PA. It is only 1 ½ - 2 hours away and EXTREMELY family friendly. With an indoor water park, an arcade, and plenty more to do, it would be a perfect vacation for any family. It has an indoor supermarket so you don’t have to drive to the market and waste gas. Perfect!
"ARF"- A Play You Can Really Sink Your Teeth into
By Natalie Estrella

We recently had the pleasure of viewing this year’s Kindergarten play, "ARF", which was about enjoying each other’s differences and recognizing what each individual has to offer to society.
All the different breeds of dogs were represented as they competed in a judging over which breed was the best. An extreme amount of hard work was put into this play by the teachers, teacher’s aides, students, and the custodians. The audience was delighted to watch the Kindergarteners singing such songs as: "This is Our Night to Howl", "What Does It Mean to be a Dog", "Connect the Dots", "Dynamite", and "Who Let the Dogs Out". Overall, we all had a howling good time viewing the show!
