Hudson County Community College (HCCC) is a two-year community college offering courses leading to certificates or associate’s degrees in areas such as Allied Health, Business, Computer Sciences, Culinary Arts, Education, Engineering Sciences/Technologies, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The degrees prepare graduates for immediate employment or transfer to a baccalaureate program at a four-year institution.

August 18, 19, 21, 22, and 26 and late registration on August 27 and 28, 2008. (The Jersey City main campus is within walking distance of the PATH).
Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The last day to ADD/DROP is Monday, September 22, 2008.

APPLICATION AND TESTING “All new students must take a College Placement Test” An admissions application must be completed prior to registration. Applications are available at Kearny High School Community Education Department. All testing will take place at the main campus in Jersey City, Monday – Thursday 9:15 am or 1:15 pm or Thursday 5:30 pm. For appointment, please call: (201) 360-4190.
CLASS SCHEDULE Classes will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings for 13 weeks, beginning Thursday, September 11 and ending Thursday, December 18, 2008. TUITION AND FEESTuition for the Fall 2008 semester is $93.00 per credit for Hudson County residents, plus fees.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS ENG 101 College Composition I 3 Credits This course offers instruction in essay writing. While some attention is given to common grammatical problems, the course focuses primarily on the writing process. Students are taught pre-writing, composing, and editing techniques through practical demonstrations, in-class exercises, and analysis of readings in expository prose. NOTE: Students completing ENG 101 must take the Writing Proficiency Test. Passing this test is a requirement for passing the course. Students scoring less than ‘8’ on the Writing Placement Test must take ENG 101 with ENG 096.
MAT 070 Basic Algebra Workshop 1 Credit This workshop is required for all students taking MAT 073, Basic Algebra I. The workshop emphasizes problem solving. Offered in conjunction with MAT 071
MAT 071 Basic Mathematics I 3 Credits Basic computational skills and problem solving using these skills. Topics include whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, percents, ratio and proportion, measurement, and geometry. Placement is determined by the College Placement Test. Offered in conjunction with MAT 070
MAT 100 College Algebra 3 Credits This course teaches the essentials of college algebra. Topics include polynomials, first degree equations, word problems, graphing, systems of linear equation, factoring, exponents, quadratic equations, matrices, and radicals. Prerequisite: Exit CPT in Basic Math and Algebra.
PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology 3 Credits This course is designed to present an overview of psychology. It is an introduction to the field; students learn about current perspectives and the methods used in psychology today. They become familiar with problems and general findings in the processes of sensation, perception, learning and memory, and consider issues related to language, thought, and intelligence. They focus, too, on understanding the connections between emotions, stress, and health, and examine current theories in developmental, personality, and abnormal psychology. Students are encouraged to apply psychological principles to personal and social concerns.
