Getting Your Chromebook

  • Chromebooks will be available for general distribution this year Aug 30 and 31, Sep 1 and 7.
  • Students must be registered for a Chromebook, the insurance premium and any outstanding repair balances paid.
  • Chromebooks will be available for drive/walk by pick up OUTSIDE the High School Blue Gym
    • Mon Aug 30, Tue Aug 31 and Wed Sep 1 from 8:00 - 11:30 AM and 1:00 - 3:00 PM
  • Additional dates:
    • Tue Sep 7   10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
    • Tue Sep 7   1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
    • Wed Sep 8  1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
    • Thu Sep 9   1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
    • Fri Sep 10   1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

  • After this, Chromebooks pick-up will be by appointment only. Pick-up will be at the High School.
  • If the student will be in Grades 3 -12 in September, they can hold onto their Chromebook, but the Chromebook will be disabled.
  • Once the student has registered and paid the insurance for 2021-22, the Chromebook will be re-enabled
  • the Chromebook must be plugged in before attempting to turn it on for the first time.
  • connect to WiFi (if necessary, click the WiFi icon on the bottom right of the screen)
  • if another student's name shows on the logon screen, click the down arrow next to the name, then click remove user.
  • students should then login with their Google email and password. 
    • If the student is new or has forgotten their login, the school office can assist.
  • Make sure the Chromebook is up-to-date. For instructions, visit
  • also check the device for the following
    • cracked screen
    • missing or loose keys
    • keyboard function
    • not charging
    • deep scratches or cracks in the casing
    • Damaged charging cables
  • We check, sanitize and, if needed, repair all Chromebooks over the summer. However there is a chance, we miss something.
  • If the Chromebook the student is given is not working or is damaged as described above, please report the damage to cbsupport@sboe.org within 2 weeks of receipt to avoid any charges.
  • We will set up an appointment for repair or replacement.
  • Email cbsupport@sboe.org to report any Chromebook issue.
  • If the student is at school, they can visit the media center for assistance.
  • Visit the media center in the school for a loaner device. This loaner will not work outside a school building.
  • Students should fully charge the Chromebook before the start of each school day.
  • Elementary classrooms may have spare chargers for use in the room.
  • In the high/middle school, students can visit the media center for a loaner chromebook while their device is charged.
  • Be careful not to toss or drop the Chromebook even if it is stored in a backpack or bag.
  • Do not cover any vents on the Chromebook.
  • Insert and remove cords, cables, and removable storage devices carefully with the Chromebook.
  • Use the Chromebook and its charger away from water, direct heat, direct sunlight, food, drinks, small children and pets.
  • Do not write or draw on, etch, or apply stickers, decals or labels to the Chromebook.
  • Do not leave the Chromebook unattended.
  • Do not lift Chromebooks by the screen.
  • Always carry a Chromebook either supported by both hands underneath the bottom or with one hand under an edge with the lid closed.
  • Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g., pens, pencils, notebooks).
  • Do not wedge the Chromebook into a book bag or place anything in the carrying case/protective cover that will compress the cover.
  • Do not poke or draw on the screen with any sharp object (pen, pencil, etc.)
  • Always transport the Chromebook in a bag or backpack that has a padded laptop compartment or insert. If the charger is kept in the bag or backpack, store it in a separate compartment.
  • Unplug the charger from the Chromebook before putting it in a bag, case or backpack.
  • Not in school.
  • At home students can connect to a printer via WiFi or USB.
Several options exist for using the Chromebook away from schools,even for families who do not subscribe to wireless access.

Please contact the school to let us know if you have no internet access at home.
Students may put reusable non-stick "cling" style school-appropriate attachments (skins) to their devices. Chromebook cases may be personalized as students choose so long as the integrity/structure of the case is not altered.
 
Cases and skins must be removed when the Chromebook is turned in at the end of the year.
