Good Afternoon Secaucus Families,

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the cooler weather we are having. As promised, I am providing you with an FAQ based on the “Parent Communication Form” questions that have been asked over the past month. I will also give an update on our Re-registration program in our school district.

I thank all parents who participated in the re-registration process this past week. While some parents were thankful that we were ensuring that our students really do live in Secaucus, others were annoyed that they needed to provide us with this information and had to come in person. Please remember that the Secaucus School District is the #1 school district in Hudson county and, we believe, many parents would go to great lengths to have their “out-of-town” children attend our schools. This process is one step in ensuring that only Secacucus citizens are attending our schools and that residency documents are not being forged or altered by photoshop. Parents are only being asked to give up a few minutes of their time to ensure this verification process is completed.

Some parents have been reaching out to me to ask if there will be another re-registration session in the near future, since they missed all of them this week. We will be reaching out early next week with information on “what to do” if you did not re-register your child/children during our 4 scheduled events.

The Parent Communication Form is still open for questions and can be accessed here: https://forms.gle/wFy9mQYpd1HdzRuk7. There is also an easy-to-use button on the www.sboe.org home page that you can click that will lead you straight to the form. We welcome all questions! Our first FAQ of the school year can be found below!

Take Care and Enjoy the Weekend,

Dr. Daniela Riser

Acting Superintendent

Frequently Asked Questions - September 2022

____________________________________________________________

Our Parent Communication Form is still open! If there are any questions you would like to ask the district administration, please visit this link to ask: https://forms.gle/Xcx1QzgPN52JFH6DA

Q: I am so upset that I have to re-register my children in school. Why are you doing this to parents?

A: Please remember that the Secaucus School District is the #1 school district in Hudson county and, we believe, many parents would go to great lengths to have their “out-of-town” children attend our schools. This process is one step in ensuring that only Secacucus citizens are attending our schools and that residency documents are not being forged or altered by photoshop. Parents are only being asked to give up a few minutes of their time to ensure this verification process is completed.

Q: Is it absolutely necessary for the kids to have the school logo on their sweat pants? This becomes so expensive when you have more than one child.

A: As per our dress code, we are allowing students to wear school-issued clothing (sold by the patriot pop-up shop) as an alternative to the khaki pants. You are able to purchase any style khaki pants you desire for your children. However, in order to wear “sweatpants” to school, they must be school issued. Thankfully, the Patriot Pop-up Shop has moderately priced items and makes a minimal profit, passing the savings along to the customers. If you can not afford your child/children’s school clothing costs, please contact 201-617-5917 for assistance.

Q: When will the updated Health Education curriculum be posted for the Middle and High School? Is there an opt-out form available for the Middle School?

A: The updated Middle and High School Comprehensive Health and Phys. Ed. curriculum is currently being rewritten. It will be approved at the November board meeting and posted on our website shortly after that. The opt-out form will be prominently displayed in the front of the published document.

Q: We were not able to attend the four re-registration events. Will there be another chance to re-register before my child gets disenrolled?

A: The district will hold another re-registration event in the near future. When a date is announced, we will send that information to the parents via Email and website/social media announcements.

Q: I need tech support for my child’s chromebook. Where do I go?

A: Here is a link for tech support: https://sboe.incidentiq.com/guest/NAM8KTKC/sboe-remote-form#top

You can also access IT support under “Quick Links” and “Parents” on the www. Sboe.org website.

Q: Hi. Are our schools planning to start teaching new sex/transgender education in elementary schools? Particularly 2 grade lessons that “some boys have girls parts” I would to have clear explanation of these lessons and forms to opt my kids out during back to school night. Thank you.

A: All of our updated curricula are located online under “Academics” on the www. Sboe.org website. Our elementary Comprehensive Health and Phys. Ed. curriculum is located here: https://4.files.edl.io/c59d/08/23/22/144328-a0dcf9ef-30a4-4c6f-a325-ec8a4b3e61cf.pdf

The opt-out form is located on page 4 of this curriculum document.

There will be NO lessons in Grade 2 that teach the content you are referring to. Additionally, sex education will not be taught until Grade 5.
