Summer Extended School Year 2021

If your child is eligible for our Extended School Year Program, please see below for details.

The Secaucus Summer 2021  Extended School Year will run 5 days a week this year for 6 weeks instead of the traditional 4 weeks (Monday through Friday) from Monday, July 12 to Friday, August 20 at Huber Street School.

Students entering Pre-K through Grade 12 will attend Extended School Year at Huber Street School with the student start/end time 9:00am-12:00pm. We are asking that all students and staff wear masks during the program. At this time we are not allowing our students to eat snacks in our ESY classrooms.

The need for Extended School Year will be discussed at your child's annual review meeting. Please contact your child’s case manager if you have any questions or concerns.

Qualifying criteria includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Regression and recoupment - Question to consider: Is the child likely to lose critical skills or fail to recover these skills within a reasonable amount of time?

  2. Ability of the student to interact with nondisabled peers

  3. Emerging skills/breakthrough opportunities - Question to consider: Will a lengthy summer break cause significant problems for a child who is learning a key skill?

  4. Interfering behavior - Question to consider: Does the child's behavior interfere with his or her ability to benefit from special education?

  5. Nature and/or severity of disability

  6. Ability of the child's parents to provide educational structure in the home

  7. Behavioral and physical impairments
